Important Chat for Parents, Caregivers and Advocates of Children of 9/11
Families of September 11 (FOS11) would like to hear from any and all adults caring for or interacting with a child or children directly affected by the events of 9/11. We know that, even three and a half years out, issues related to trauma and loss may surface in the classroom, in social situations, or in the home. We would like to hear from you about how you think your schools are handling their responsibilities to these children. Where or from whom have you gotten the most help? What are your concerns regarding the effect of media stories on your child's development? What plans will you make leading up to the anniversary to prepare your children or your classroom? What experiences can you share with us regarding your experiences as a caregiver of a child affected by public trauma?
This special chat will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at 9 PM EDT and will be moderated by Dr. Donna Gaffney, a licensed mental health professional and trauma specialist. Dr. Gaffney is the author of The Seasons of Grief: Helping Children Grow Through Loss. She also wrote the professional guide accompanying the young adult book, 911: The Book of Help. Maureen Brogan, MA, LPC, the new Project Manager for the Children of September 11 webpage and Program Director for the NJ Family Advocate Program, will also be in attendance.
