Flight 93 Memorial Designs Go On Display

The public is invited to view nearly 1,000 entries for the Flight 93 Memorial Design Competition at The Shops at Georgian Place in Somerset, Pennsylvania.

Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 19, the public is invited to view the designs for the permanent memorial to honor the heroes of Flight 93, on exhibit through Feb. 21. Gallery hours include Wednesday through Friday, Noon to 7:30 p.m., Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays Noon to 5 p.m. The Shops at Georgian Place are located behind the Georgian Inn, off Route 601 just north of the Pennsylvania Turnpike interchange exit 110 (old Exit 10) off the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The competition officially opened on September 11, 2004; the closing date to submit designs was January 11, 2005. Over 2,200 entrants registered for the competition, and nearly 1,000 design submittals were actually received for Stage I of the competition. The announcement of the winning design will be on or around September 25, 2005.

The exhibit will be closed January 24th, 25th and 26th, 2005 to allow the Stage I jury to deliberate and select the finalists. Admission to the gallery is free. Interested school, civic, church and other organizations who would like a private tour, who are interested in volunteering to assist with the exhibit or who need further directions and information may call Jane Miller at 814-279-6153.
