Let Them Know Families Want a Complete Final Report!
With only four months left until its federally mandated May 27 deadline, the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States needs a deadline extension in order to complete a thorough and comprehensive investigation of the events leading up to and including September 11th. Specifically, an extension until January 10, 2005 is necessary to ensure that the Commission and its work are removed from the political arena and given the freedom it needs to accomplish its statutory mandate. It is absolutely critical that members of the Commission be made aware of families support for a deadline extension. Please call the Commission and let them know that the families of those whose loved ones were killed on September 11th --
Why is this so important?
-
The commission is canceling vital public hearings. Two sets of hearings in February are already canceled. The Commission needs an extension to January 2005 to maintain the public hearing schedule that was promised to families by the Commissioners. Anyone doubting the value and importance of public hearings need only to read the transcripts from the prior two hearings held earlier this week. Public hearings serve to restore confidence in a government that was made to look weak and inadequate by the events of 9/11.
-
The commission needs to release a fully classified Final Report—the production of which requires more time and preparation.
-
The Commission is not getting access to the Presidential Daily Briefings (PDBs) that was agreed to between the Administration and the Commissioners.
-
The Commission is turning away valuable, vital, relevant information regarding 9/11 because of time constraints.
-
An extension of anything less than 6 months places this commission in the middle of election politics. To do so is an insult to the dead.
