The Pataki administration will release the last $7 million of a state-sanctioned funding stream for Sept. 11 victims' survivors. The remaining $7 million has been held in a reserve for an estimated 400 relatives who have not yet applied for awards. They have until September 30, 2003 to apply.
Those eligible for the aid include victims' spouses, children up to age 21, domestic partners and fiancées. Children who are older than 21, but who can establish the victim was at least 50 percent of his or her financial support, may also be eligible. Victims' parents, if there are no spouses, children, domestic partners or fiancées also qualify.
To apply for the funds, officials ask eligible parties to call (866) 244-3839 toll-free or log onto http://www.state.ny.us. The state fund is not connected to the federal September 11 Victim Compensation Fund.
