Hurricane Katrina:
Local Volunteer Opportunities
in New York City

Help provide assistance to Hurricane Katrina evacuees as they register for services and adjust to NYC. New York Cares is calling for New Yorkers to volunteer to help provide services at the Office of Emergency Management's (OEM) newly opened Disaster Assistance Service Center (DASC) for victims of Hurricane Katrina who have relocated to New York City. New York Cares is the lead agency for coordinating unaffiliated volunteers in New York City during emergencies.

DASC volunteers will provide assistance to evacuees relocating to NYC as they adjust to the city. Positions include intake specialists, greeters, runners, technical support and 'community buddies'. Training will be provided for all volunteers. Please note, you must be 18 years or older to volunteer with New York Cares. DASC is located at 80 Centre St. at the corner of Worth and Centre Streets in lower Manhattan.

Visit http://www.nycares.org/2_0/2_2_hurricane_katrina.lasso to sign up for a position and to pick a specific date and time. As further needs arise for recovery volunteers, OEM will forward these requests to New York Cares. Please continue to visit the link above to stay informed about local Katrina based volunteer opportunities.
