Families of September 11 remains dedicated to supporting a timely and appropriate memorial to remember and honor all the lives that were lost on September 11, 2001. We realize that there are many differences in opinion and views on this issue. FOS11 seeks to provide as much information as we can. This section provides links to articles, press releases, memorial groups and information as it is related to rebuilding Ground Zero. We neither support nor oppose any of these groups or websites. Rather, we aim to offer timely updates and provide information as it becomes available.
Foundation To Become National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center http://www.buildthememorial.org/site/DocServer/NationalSept11memorialFINAL__2___4_.pdf?docID=3521 August 14, 2007 The World Trade Center Memorial Foundation today announced that it will now be called the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center in order to reflect more fully the Memorial and Museum's commemoration of the September 11, 2001 attacks as a national tragedy that changed the course of history.
Jumbo Steel For World Trade Center Memorial and Museum Arrives at Port of Savannah After 4,771 Mile Journey http://www.buildthememorial.org/site/DocServer/SavannahSteelFinal.pdf?docID=3481 August 8, 2007 The World Trade Center Memorial Foundation today announced that approximately 580 metric tons (638 short tons) of jumbo steel I-beams to be used in the construction of the Memorial and Museum arrived at the Port of Savannah after a 4,771 mile journey.
Plans for Sixth Commemoration Ceremony July 18, 2007 Due to the ongoing redevelopment at the site, this year's September 11th observance will take place at Zuccotti Park, which is adjacent to the World Trade Cente rsite at Liberty Street between Broadway and Church Street/Trinity Place. The World Trade Center Memorial Foundation is to this afternoon receive a donation of $45,000 from Captain Thomas Heidenberger of the Airline Ride Across America, in a ceremony on Capitol Hill. The donation comes from proceeds of the Airline Ride, a cross-country bike ride organized to raise funds and remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, particularly the 33 airline employees who died. Heidenberger will present additional $45,000 checks to both the Pentagon Memorial and the Flight 93 Memorial. Click on the link to read the full press release.

In this role, Ms. Gerner will be responsible for managing the design and construction for the Memorial, Museum, and Museum Pavilion, working with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which is overseeing construction on behalf of the Foundation. Ms. Gerner is a trained architect, construction manager and historic preservationist with extensive years of experience managing New York-based projects. WTC Memorial Foundation and Port Authority Award Full Steel Package for Construction of Memorial and Museum http://www.buildthememorial.org/site/DocServer/Structural_Steel_Package__5_.pdf?docID=3081 May 8, 2007 The World Trade Center Memorial Foundation and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey today announced that Owen Steel Company, Inc. was selected to provide both the jumbo and structural steel packages for construction of the World Trade Center Memorial and Museum. Owen Steel Company will be responsible for all services required for the supply, fabrication and erection of the structural steel members, including procurement, engineering, trucking, and delivery. The Executive Committee of the Foundation’s Board of Directors approved the award of the full steel package to Owen during a meeting yesterday afternoon. The agency that oversaw the redesign of the World Trade Center site on Thursday stopped posting on its website hourly images from a camera pointed at ground zero.
Announcement from the Port Authority Regarding Relocation of WTC Memorial Family Viewing Room February 6, 2007 As most of you know, major construction is underway throughout the 16-acre World Trade Center site to build the Memorial, Freedom Tower, and the Transportation Hub. The Lower Manhattan Construction Command Center (LMCCC) http://www.lowermanhattan.info/lmccc/overview/ The LMCCC, established by executive orders issued by New York Governor George E. Pataki and New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg in November 2004. The orders were re-issued under Governor Elliot Spitzer on January 2, 2007. The LMCCC is charged with coordination and general oversight of all Lower Manhattan construction projects worth more than $25 million south of Canal Street. Visit the website to learn more.

A new website “Save the 9/11 Memorial” was established by several groups representing families of those lost on 9/11. The website provides information on plans, news, and proposed designs for the memorial. On this site, you can also sign a petition to the World Trade Center Memorial to revise current plans to list the names, to be replaced with the recommendations provided by Save the 9/11 Memorial. Project Rebirth http://www.projectrebirth.org/ Using time-lapse photography, Project Rebirth is currently documenting the day-by-day rebuilding of the World Trade Center site in New York City. Six 35mm time-lapse motion picture cameras, situated around the site since the six-month anniversary of 9/11, will continue to shoot one frame of film every five minutes, seven days a week, until this historic reconstruction is completed. This technology will enable the public to view the entire reconstruction within a 20-minute time span. The final film is intended for a future museum memorial installation. Take Back the Memorial http://www.takebackthememorial.org A coalition of September 11th families which advocates for keeping the World Trade Center Memorial focused on the memory of those who died in the attacks of September 11, 2001. They have launched a national media campaign urging people to help "Save the 9/11 Memorial" at Ground Zero. The group opposes the Mayor's current plans to list the names randomly around the memorial's reflecting pools. To sign their online petition, visit the Save the 9/11 Memorial website.
