Dear FOS11 Members,

Please see the notice we received from David Paine of My Good Deed regarding efforts to have September 11 declared a National Day of Service.

As many of you know, MyGoodDeed.org has been working for seven years to officially establish 9/11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance.   WE ARE EXTREMELY CLOSE TO ACHIEVING THIS GOAL BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP RIGHT NOW.

1-  Call your local House of Representatives Congressional representative today or tomorrow and tell them to support passage of the GIVE Act.  The GIVE Act, which includes our legislative language to establish 9/11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance, comes to a vote Wednesday (3/18), so your action in support of this bill is needed now. If you are unsure who represents you in Congress, click on this link and type in your zip code.

https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml   (You may need to know your four digit zip code extension, so look that up first through the post office Web site.) Last year the GIVE Act failed to pass by just one vote.  So it is vital you express your support now.

2-  Call your United States Senator, and ask them to urge Senator Kennedy to include language that designates 9/11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance into the Kennedy-Hatch bill.  We also have until Wednesday (3/18) to get that language inserted into the Senate bill.

Things look very positive... To get regular updates on our progress, sign up at www.Twitter.com/MyGoodDeed.org.  It's free.

Our special thanks go out to U.S. Senator Schumer and Representatives Peter King, Carolyn McCarthy, George Miller, and Buck McKeon, all who have all worked tirelessly on our behalf this year.  Our thanks also to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who also is a great champion of this cause.
