Families of September 11 is shocked and saddened to learn of the aircraft crash in New York City today. We send our heartfelt condolences to those who were affected, and commend the many rescue workers and fighter pilots who responded so admirably.
The crash underscores our continued vulnerability, to accidents and to terrorism. Nearly half of the 9/11 Commission recommendations have not been implemented, including aviation security reforms, building safety upgrades and communication capabilities for first responders. Today’s events highlight the need to implement all 41 of the 9/11 Commission recommendations immediately.
Aircraft disasters are traumatic for all, this one especially, given the circumstances. We recommend people take time out to care for themselves after today’s event and remember the shock, anxiety and fear one may feel are natural responses. If you need assistance, please contact the toll-free mental health hotline at (800) LIFENET.
