FOS11 Chat: Retriggering Trauma
Join Dr. Donna Gaffney and your peers in the 9/11 community for a special one-hour chat discussion on Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 8:00-9:00 PM EST hosted by Families of September 11. Titled Retriggering Trauma: When Events Evoke Emotions, this chat will focus on how the recent tsunami disaster can strike close to home for 9/11 families. From images of devastation to stories of families searching for loved ones, such a tragedy may trigger painful memories, bring back fears we had thought we had overcome, or simply remind us of feelings of sadness, helplessness, or despair that we wish we had forgotten.
We encourage you to participate so that you can discuss particular issues that you face, learn and share coping strategies, and support others in the 9/11 community. This chat is OPEN TO ALL FOS11 MEMBERS. Dr. Gaffney, a licensed mental health professional, noted trauma specialist and faculty member of the International Trauma Studies Program at New York University, will moderate.
You will enter your email address and the password you created to register with Families of September 11 (if you have forgotten your password, you can have it emailed to you). Then, you'll select an anonymous chat name and password. Once enrolled, you'll receive an email with a link to the chat. On Jan. 19 at 8:00 PM, please click on the link and enter your chosen chat name and password. As a reminder, all participants must be 18 years of age or older.
If you have any problems or questions, please do not hesitate to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 212-575-1878.
