Welcome to the new Families of September 11 companion webpage, Children of September 11. This page provides relevant information for parents, caregivers and advocates of children affected by 9/11, including resources, articles, and a platform for discussion.
Resources include emotional support websites such as the National Association of School Psychologists, which offers tips for parents, teachers and adolescents for coping with the anniversary of 9/11. Other resources, like FEMA for Kids, include games and information geared specifically to children. Parents and caregivers will also find helpful links to scholarships, including the September 11 Scholarship Alliance, which gives an overview of funds available to attend two- or four-year institutions of higher learning.
In addition, you'll find events of special interest to families and educators. Events such as Comfort Zone Camp, a special weekend camp to be held in October in Blairstown, NJ, for children ages 7-17 affected by 9/11. Other upcoming events include the Forum on Teaching 9-11 in Washington, DC, which will explore how key cultural institutions shape Americans' memories of September 11.
Children of September 11 will also feature original articles like Helping Teens with Depression and PTSD, written by Sally Farr, R.N., M.Ed. Look for more contributions soon from the Families of September 11 Advisory Board, which includes many experts in the childcare field.
