FOS11/Dickenson College Partner in Seeking Innovative

9-11 Curriculum

Families of September 11, on behalf of Dickinson College, is pleased to announce a national competition to identify four teachers (one each, at the elementary, middle, high school and postsecondary levels) who have developed innovative ways to teach material related to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Candidates for the award can be self-nominated or nominated by someone else.  The deadline for nominations is June 30, 2004.  Candidates are required to submit a copy of their teaching materials, a brief biographical statement, and a short essay (250 words) explaining their goals in developing their teaching materials. Nominations can be sent to David Commins, Dickinson College, by calling 717-245-1846 or by emailing him at mailto:commins@dickinson.edu.

Winners will be selected and announced in mid-August.  The four winners will receive travel and two nights accommodations in Washington DC and will be invited to participate in a panel on "Teaching 9-11" at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History on the afternoon of Thursday, September 9, 2004.  At the conclusion of the panel the winners will receive a plaque and an honorarium check for $1,000.
